Turtle Bunbury Presents “Vanishing Ireland”
May 2019
Drawing upon his award-winning ‘Vanishing Ireland’ book series, Turtle recreates a poignant and fascinating world of music, emigration, humour and resilience. The highly-acclaimed project began in 2001 when Turtle teamed up with the photographer James Fennell and began travelling all over Ireland, interviewing and photographing elderly members of Irish society about their life stories and family backgrounds.
The project resulted in four best-selling books, as well as an affiliated book about the Irish pub, and was widely applauded as ‘an invaluable record of times past’. This visual presentation, which Turtle has delivered in Chicago, Paris, London, Monte Carlo and elsewhere, showcases the best photographs from the project along with the most interesting, amusing and inspiring stories.
