The house was built by Dr Edward Hudson between 1776 and 1788. It has extensive grounds, a walled garden, the wild Glen garden with a waterfall and stream and woodland walks. In Spring the gardens have the added beauty of tall flowering rhododendrons. It has been home to three generations of the Bence-Jones family; including the country house writer Mark Bence-Jones, the father of the present owner Silvia.
